Roger Federer (SUI) beat Russian Mikhail Youzhny in the Final of the 2013 Gerry Weber Open

Federer claims 6th title at Gerry Weber Open – 77th career title

Suisse Roger Federer (31 years of age) beats Mikhail Youzhny (RUS) with a 6-7(5) 6-3 6-4 victory to claim his 6th title at the Gerry Weber Open and 77th career tournament win.

It has been a 43 weeks waiting time for Roger Federer to clinch this title, on the grass courts in Halle, Westfalen (Germany). It was the second longest period where in the Suisse couldn´t win a title on the ATP Tour. The father of twins has a lifetime contract at the 250-level tournament in Germany and ensures the tournament organization that he will return year for year. Nevertheless this does not guarantee his success during the tournament. After 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 & 2008 this was the 6th time he remain undefeated during this grass court tournament. After beating the defending champion, Tommy Haas, in the semifinal 3-6 6-3 6-4 and giving him a revenge after the loss 2012 in the final, he was able to capture the victory against Mikhail Youzhny.

“I feel it, I feel confident. I´m excited about what is to come. I´m very pleased with how I played this week” said the ATP World ranked number 2. With the 77th career title, Federer is now even with John McEnroe on the all- time list after Jimmy Connors (109 titles) and Ivan Lendl (94 titles).
